Staff report
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Cleveland man with threatening to kill Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond.
Reuben Rink Beaver, 56, of 280 Foster Road, is charged with communicating threats.
According to an arrest warrant, Beaver threatened to kill Redmond during a March 17 telephone conversation with a State Bureau of Investigation agent. Beaver was apparently complaining to the agent about his girlfriend, who was being held at the Iredell County jail, Rowan Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said.
According to the arrest warrant, the threat was made in a way that a “reasonable person” would believe “that the threat was likely to be carried out and the person threatened believed that the threat would be carried out.”
Beaver was released from the Rowan County Detention Center after posting $500 bond.
Redmond did not return a telephone message Monday.
