Initial Tropical Plants, which provides workplaces such as the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury with plants, has changed its name to Ambius.
Mandy Smith, assistant branch manager at the Charlotte office, said Wednesday she has spent six years with the company, which has supplied the VA for even longer than that. She said Ambius has about 1,000 plants at the VA, mostly in the psychiatric ward.
Smith said the company supplies all sizes of businesses with plants and the rebranding at Ambius is part of an effort to touch all the senses, not just focusing on interior landscaping. Ambius can offer artwork, ambient scenting and holiday decor to create a more serene workplace and boost morale in the workplace.
The company is based in Buffalo Grove, Ill., and is part of the publicly traded company Rentokil Initial, which is the world’s largest provider of plants for commercial environments. The company provides interior landscaping, design installation and maintenance services.
Ambius’ roots stem to 1963 when Gerry Leider launched Tropical Plant Rentals in Chicago. In 1988, Tropical Plant Rentals was sold to Rentokil. The company employs about 1,400 people in more than 40 branches in North America.
