Clarence ThompsonCHINA GROVE ó Clarence Lentz Thompson, 80, 1445 Brookwood Drive, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at his residence.
Born Feb. 20, 1928, in Stanly County, he was a son of the late Charlie W. and Gladys Daniel Thompson. Educated in the Stanly County Schools, Mr. Thompson served in the U.S. Army and attended Victory Chapel Church. He acted as a supply pastor at many churches of the Wesleyan Holiness Doctrine and retired after 39 years with Southern Railway.
Son Joel Robin Thompson and daughter Wanda Evonne Thompson preceded him in death.
Survivors include wife Julia Nannie Thompson; sons Jonathan Eric Thompson, Salisbury, and Micah Lentz Thompson, Cincinnati, Ohio; daughter Angela Faith Thompson, Salisbury; brothers Fred Thompson, China Grove, Frank Thompson, Badin, and Paul Thompson, Locust; sisters Geraldine Lippe, Scotts Valley, Calif., Henrietta Mabry and Peggy Deese, both of Albemarle, Ethel Davis, Oakboro, Doris Mcrae, Mount Gilead, and Ruby Davis, Salisbury; and two grandchildren.
A service was held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Salisbury Bible Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. William Brown, the Rev. Leroy Archibald, the Rev. Guy Hartsock and the Rev. Frank Thompson. Burial, church cemetery.
