The arrest of a Salisbury mother and her four sons in a series of neighborhood break-ins could be history repeating itself along the lines of Ma Barker and her boys in the 1930s.
The Salisbury Police have charged Valerie Denise Miller, also known as Valerie Denise McGee, 47, of 79 Hill St., formerly of 922 Celebration Drive, with felony possession of stolen goods.
Four sons were also charged. Dexter Ryan McGee, 19, was charged with three counts of felony possession of stolen goods; Devon Daniel McGee, 16, was charged with three counts of felony larceny breaking and entering and felony larceny of a firearm; Christopher James McGee, 17, was charged with felony larceny breaking and entering; Joseph Dwayne McGee, 27, was charged with felony possession of stolen goods.
Valerie Miller was charged with taking jewelry in March from a woman who lived not far from her on Celebration Drive. She remains in the Rowan Detention Center under $5,000 bond.
Dexter McGee is charged with taking a laptop computer from a Gold Hill Drive home in mid-June and jewelry from a Carpenter’s Circle home a few days later. He remains in the county jail under $7,500 bond.
Devon McGee was charged in a robbery at the same Gold Hill Drive home in May where electronics were taken. He’s charged with breaking into a home a few houses down, where a 12-gauge shotgun, .22-caliber rifle and cash were taken. Two nights later, the same home at Carpenter’s Circle was robbed of money, jewelry and electronics.
Christopher McGee is charged with the same robbery at the Gold Hill Drive home in May.
Joseph McGee is charged with taking a PlayStation from a home in June at Carpenter’s Circle. He had been in jail on an unrelated matter.
Police say the family lived in a Habitat home in the neighborhood, but were kicked out. They then moved to the Hill Street address where they were arrested.
A year ago, another son, Antoine Terrell McGee, 20, of 922 Celebration Drive, Salisbury, was charged in connection with the beating and shooting of Anthony McFadden. McGee is one of nine charged in that crime.
Miller/McGee and her boys will appear in court in the coming weeks.
