Minor injuries in collision

Staff report

SCOTCH-IRISH — Two drivers escaped serious injury Friday morning when their cars collided on curvy Cool Springs Road at the Iredell County line.

But their cars were totaled, according to N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Bradley P. Potts.

The accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. in the northwest corner of Rowan County.

According to Trooper Potts, a 2000 Mercury Cougar, driven by Linda Basher, 55, of Greensboro, was traveling west on Cool Springs Road. The Mercury ran off the right side of the road and overcorrected trying to get back on the roadway.

The Mercury then slid sideways into the oncoming lane and the path of a 1998 Nissan Sentra driven by Tilden Tolliver, 38, of the Iredell County community of Olin.

Both drivers were wearing their seat belts, and speed was not a factor in the accident, Potts said. The speed limit on that portion of Cool Springs Road is 55 mph.

Basher was not injured, but Tolliver, who was driving to his job at Invista in Rowan County, was taken to Davis Hospital in Statesville.

Potts interviewed Tolliver at the hospital and said he suffered a dislocated thumb and injured left collar bone.

The trooper issued Basher a citation for driving left of the center line.
