Staff report
Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, the Democratic nominee for governor, will make her first campaign stop in Rowan County since winning the nomination in May.
Perdue will attend a meet-and-greet event at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Rowan County Democratic Party headquarters, 121 E. Innes St.
The event is free and open to the public.
Perdue faces Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory, the Republican candidate, in the November election.
Perdue grew up in the coal mining mountains of Southwest Virginia and has lived most of her adult life in New Bern.
She was the first woman elected to the N.C. House from that area of the state and was the first woman ever elected lieutenant governor in North Carolina.
