Six volunteers recently completed training to become tutors for the Rowan County Literacy Council.
The Laubach workshop was conducted by trainers Dot Hurley, Phyllis Martin and Carolyn Myers.
The training is for non-professional people who would like to help others improve their reading skills or teach English as a Second Language to foreign-born residents.
Tutors completing the 13-hour course were Kermit Ashley, Brenda Forbis, Oscar Garcia, Vance Meek, Michelle Reid and Kelly Vanager.
The Literacy Council offers tutoring services to any adult 16 and older. Anyone wanting to register for the next workshop or to receive tutoring help should call the Literacy Office at 704-216-8266.
Rowan County Literacy Council is a Rowan County United Way agency.
