Koontz Elementary wins Battle of the Books

A team from Elizabeth Duncan Koontz Elementary School won first place in the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s elementary school Battle of the Books competition held Monday at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Knollwood Elementary’s team took second place and the Mount Ulla team won third place in the competition, in which 17 schools sponsored teams that went through 17 rounds of questions.
The Koontz team will now go the regional competition April 18 in Iredell County.
Members of the Koontz team are Callie Alexander, Miranda Brady, John Louis Dunham , Evan Dunn, Zane Gray, Robert Moulton, Codie Smith and Mary Stoelting.
Battle of the Books is sponsored by the N.C. School Library Media Association and is designed to encourage all students to read. Through the fun and excitement of the competition, students improve reading skills, mature in their choices of reading materials and acquire a broader knowledge base.
