Staff report
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will be in Salisbury tonight to stump for presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Barrack Obama.
Sebelius will speak at 8 p.m. in the Heritage Room at 118 E. Council St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.
The Obama Web site says Sebelius will discuss the candidate, the nation’s future and what local residents can do to get involved with the campaign.
Obama is running against U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination and the two will face off in the North Carolina primary May 6.
Though the candidate hasn’t visited Rowan County, Obama is building a strong presence. Local supporters organized Rowan for Obama in February. The Obama campaign opened an office at the Salisbury depot this week.
Sebelius is a two-term governor who first endorsed Obama in January and has since campaigned for him. She has also been mentioned as a possible running mate should he win the nomination.
Sebelius is not the first high-profile surrogate to visit Salisbury on behalf of presidential campaign this election year. Former President Bill Clinton stopped here March 28 on behalf of his wife.
The winner of the Democratic nomination will face Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain in November.
