Kannapolis man accused of assaulting officer

A Kannapolis man who allegedly stole tools and electronics from cars is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center after he reportedly assaulted the officer who tried to arrest him.
Dustin Thomas Moore, 20, 2110 Woodlawn St., is charged with three counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and committing larceny, one count of injury to personal property, assaulting a government officer and resisting a public officer.
According to arrest records, Moore broke into three vehicles and the exterior toolbox of a fourth. He is charged with the theft of a laptop computer, two iPods and tools. Total value of the stolen property was $900.
When Officer B.L. Helms of the Kannapolis Police Department tried to arrest him, Moore reportedly ran, then kicked Helms in the hand.
Moore’s bond was set at $50,000. He will appear in court Tuesday.
