Kannapolis, Concord ease water-use restrictions

Residents in Kannapolis, Landis and Concord will see water restrictions relaxed beginning Saturday after recent rains eased drought conditions.
The cities caution, however, that reservoirs remain below normal levels, meaning bans on some forms of water use remain in place.
“We appreciate the continued efforts of our citizens to conserve water. However, without continued rainfall, conditions could change rapidly,” the cities said in a press release. “We encourage our citizens to remain diligent in their conservation efforts.”
Residents will be allowed use hand-held hoses with spring-loaded nozzles on Saturdays and Tuesdays to water trees, flowers, shrubs, ornamental plants and vegetable gardens.
Watering on other days will still be prohibited, as will the use of sprinklers and other automated watering devices. Also banned are residential car washing, filling swimming pools, operation of ornamental fountains, irrigation services and washing down outside areas, except by pressure-washing businesses.
The changes also affect Mount Pleasant and Harrisburg.
