Staff report
A Kannapolis truck driver was one of four drivers involved in a crash Saturday on the Ohio Turnpike, which backed up traffic for 11 miles.
John Randolph, 25, of Kannapolis was driving a rig hauling two large rolls of paper. He was treated and released at a hopital in Montpelier according to a report published in the Toledo (Ohio) Blade.
A trooper with the Ohio State Patrol said an Illinois driver, Radenko Dzamic, was pulling three FedEx trailers and failed to stop for traffic backed up at toll booths near the Indiana state line.
Dzamic’s semi plowed into the back of the rig driven by Randolph, splitting the trailer and sending a roll of paper into another tractor-trailer rig, which swerved and hit a UPS tractor-trailer.
Dzamic was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead. He was airlifted to the University Toledo Medical Center.
