RALEIGH (AP) ó A House panel has approved a plan designed to make it more difficult for residents under the age of 21 to purchase alcohol.
The House Transportation Committee approved a plan Wednesday which would change the format of driver’s licenses issued to North Carolina residents who are not legally allowed to drink. The new cards would be formatted vertically, instead of horizontally.
Rep. Dale Folwell, a Forsyth Republican, said the layout change will help vendors easily identify those customers who can legally purchase alcohol. He said some clerks sell alcohol to underage buyers even after those customers present identification which shows they arenít 21.
The plan now heads to another House committee for consideration.
