Gold Hill Rail Trail hike is Saturday

Published 12:00 am Wednesday, December 2, 2009

Organizers at Historic Gold Hill will host a hike along the Historic Gold Hill Rail Trail on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
This will be the first organized tour and hike of the rail trail, a protected property of the LandTrust for Central North Carolina.
The trail was developed in partnership with the Historic Gold Hill and Mines Foundation and was protected by the land trust in 1997 by fee simple acquisition. The 6.92 acre property is an important historic site and provides an area for recreation.
Members of the land trust staff will also be on hand to answer questions about land protection and conservation opportunities.
Hikers will get a lesson in history as they pass sites and landmarks in Gold Hill Mines Historic Park. Those not interested in hiking might enjoy visiting the shops for a last-minute Mother’s Day gift.
Entertainers will be on hand to provide music in the village from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
