Fire damages vacant commercial building in Kannapolis Tuesday
KANNAPOLIS ó Fire damaged an unoccupied South Main Street commercial building Tuesday, the Kannapolis Fire Department said.
Firefighters responding to 1901 S. Main St. at 10:15 a.m. found smoke coming from the building, the department said in a press release. They forced entry and brought the blaze under control at 10:35 a.m.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $25,000. The cause of the fire remained undetermined Tuesday evening.
High temperatures forced fire crews to rotate out of the structure for rest and rehab to prevent heat-related injuries.
The Kannapolis Fire Department responded to the fire with six apparatus and a total of 22 personnel. The Landis, Cold Water and Enochville fire departments provided district coverage while all Kannapolis personnel were committed.
