Staff report
A Mount Ulla family has had its pet dog, Dosia, euthanized after an encounter with a rabid skunk.
It’s the 10th confirmed case of rabies in the county this year.
Annette Martin, of 1870 White Road, contacted Rowan Animal Control on Monday to report her husband had found a dead skunk in their dog lot.
The dog, a female pit bull, was not current on its rabies shots.
Jim Rich, an officer with Rowan Animal Control, said the skunk tested positive for rabies.
At that point the dog was euthanized at the request of the Martins.
