Candice Marie Marlin of Salisbury, a senior attending Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, has been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from Clariant Corp.
Marlin is majoring in mathematics and secondary education.
She is one of three winners of the $2,000 scholarships.
Charlotte-based Clariant Corp. ó the U.S. headquarters of one of the world’s leading makers of specialty chemicals ó has awarded the scholarships for the 2008-2009 academic year to students planning teaching careers in math or science.
The other recipients of the Clariant Corp. Prospective Teacher Scholarships are:
– Stacey Elaine Michael of Lexington, a senior attending Catawba College in Salisbury, majoring in middle school education.
– Katie Lynn Hatley of Stanfield, a senior attending Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, majoring in mathematics with a minor in education.
Connie Knight, director of communications and public affairs for Clariant, said, “As a chemistry company, it is essential that we be able to tap into a pool of highly qualified prospective workers.
“The role of North Carolina’s teachers to inspire students to excel at science and math and to pursue scientific and analytical occupations benefits companies like Clariant and that’s why we initiated these scholarships.”
For 25 years, Clariant has partnered with the Independent College Fund of North Carolina Fund to provide critical scholarship support to students attending North Carolina’s independent colleges and universities.
