Education: Faith chooses three for Girls State
The Faith American Legion Auxiliary Unit 327 is sponsoring three delegates to the 69th session of Tar Heel Girls State June 15-21 at Catawba College.
They are Jaimie Hill Mullen, Telicia James and Kayla Michelle Overcash.
Mullen, a rising senior at East Rowan High School, is the daughter of James and Ellen Mullen of Salisbury.
An honor roll student, Mullen is a student council class representative and member of SADD, Junior Civitan Club, Honors Chorus and National Honor Society. She is swim team captain, an All-County swimmer and recipient of the Most Valuable Player swimming award. She is serving as a junior marshal and has been elected co-president of East Rowan’s student body for the 2008-09 year.
James, a cadet lieutenant colonel in the JROTC, is the daughter of Marcus and Sherrie James. She is a member of the drill and scuba teams, rappel master and recipient of the top female physical excellence medal. She is also a member of the indoor/outdoor track, soccer and cross country teams and the National Honor Society.
Overcash, daughter of Jeff and Lisa Overcash of Faith, is a rising senior at Carson High School. She is a member of the swim team, Junior Civitan Club, Committed Young Christians, chorus and National Honor Society. She is a Civitan Scholar, honors student and Scholar Athlete.
Overcash is also an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and an American Legion Junior Auxiliary member.
