Crystal Miranda Kluttz, a senior at South Rowan High School in China Grove, has been awarded a $1,000 Erline Mayberry Scholarship from the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The scholarship was established in honor of the late Erline Mayberry, North Carolina’s only past national president of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Each year, three scholarships are awarded to children or grandchildren of VFW and Auxiliary members across the state. Kluttz qualified through her grandmother, Barbara Webb, a member in VFW Auxiliary 3006 Salisbury.
She is the daughter of Eddie and Lori Kluttz of China Grove. She plans to pursue a degree in nursing at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, specializing in labor and delivery, and has already achieved the training to qualify as a Certified Nurse Assistant.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and is active in cheerleading, theatre and dance. She is a member of the Health Occupation Students of America and the Spanish Club, and volunteers at Special Olympics and at her church. She works part-time as a babysitter and a tutor.
