EAST SPENCER ó An East Spencer police officer has been suspended pending an investigation into an alleged sexual assault.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate. Its report will be forwarded to Rowan County District Attorney Bill Kenerly, who will decide if charges are warranted, East Spencer Police Chief Ron Hines said.
Hines would not release the name of the officer or any details behind the alleged assault. The Post has received several calls about the incident.
The officer was suspended Friday and, “right now,” Hines said late Monday afternoon, it was considered a paid suspension.
