KANNAPOLIS ó Authorities say a Kannapolis woman who was charged in a Tuesday collision didn’t see the victim.
Amanda Nicole Erickson, 20, of 110 McClain Road, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to yield right-of-way.
Kannapolis Police Officer M.B. Rowland said Wednesday that the victim, Carol Smith Davis, 55, of Random Drive, Salisbury, was traveling north on North Main Street on a motor scooter when Erickson struck her.
The wreck happened Tuesday at 2:43 p.m. at the intersection of North Main and 18th streets on the Rowan County side of the city.
Based on eyewitness accounts and Erickson’s statement, “she did stop,” Rowland said.
When Erickson proceeded through the intersection, she didn’t see the scooter. Erickson was turning left.
Erickson, Rowland said, was heading to work. It’s unclear where Davis was headed.
There were no others involved in the collision and no one else was injured.
