Democrats to pick new chairman

Rowan Democrats will hold a special meeting March 22 to select a new party chairman.
Neal A. Smith, who was in the midst of a two-year term as party chairman, died on Feb. 25. Smith, 73, a Woodleaf resident, had served three terms in the N.C. House of Representatives.
Party rules call for a meeting of the Executive Committee to fill the vacant post.
The Executive Committee, which includes precinct chairmen, elected officials and party officials will meet at 10 a.m. on March 22, a Saturday.
The party’s convention will be held April 19 at 10 a.m.
Both meetings will be held in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Meeting Room, County Administrative Offices Building, 130 W. Innes St.
