Rowan County’s new Web site is now up and running.
“We’re still tweaking it, fixing a few things,” David Boling, the county’s information systems director, said Thursday.
Boling said the aim is to have a sort of soft opening. Once the tweaking is complete, county officials will make a big announcement.
The Web page has been up and running internally for a couple of weeks, giving county staffers a chance to test it.
Staff members have tried the site out on various computers and software programs. Only a few glitches have surfaced.
The goal of the Web site project is to have all the departments use the same format and procedures so visitors can have a seamless journey.
County officials want to make the site user friendly so people who know little about government can find what they are looking for.
“Most people don’t know where senior services are, whether it’s part of the Department of Social Services or it’s separate,” Boling said.
As work on the site evolves, a visitor to the site will be able to type in senior services and get a list of all services offered to seniors ó whether it’s special library programs, Social Services or Veterans Services.
The site includes a request for feedback, which, thus far, has been limited.
The county selected Kelly MarCom, of Sanford for the Web site project. The firm, established in 1996, does public relations and consulting as well as web development. The firm won the contract with a low bid of $27,435 to redesign the county’s Web site and set up a content management system.
