CONCORD ó A Concord teenager died Tuesday afternoon, two days after the motorized scooter he was riding collided with a truck in Concord.
The Concord Police Department said Larry Ray Carpenter, 19, of 67 Wilson St. N.E., was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte Sunday night and died as a result of his injuries Tuesday afternoon.
A preliminary investigation indicates the scooter driver, Randel Alexander Orr, 19, of 134 Powder St. S.W., Concord, didn’t stop for a stop sign and pulled into the path of a Chevrolet truck.
The accident occurred at 11:17 p.m. Sunday at Corban Avenue and Powder Street.
An ambulance took Orr to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast for treatment. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening, the Police Department reported.
Adam Tyler Morton, of 204 Claw Road, Oakboro, was driving the 1994 Chevrolet S-10 pickup that collided with the scooter. David Martin Clontz, 20, of 392 Honeycutt Drive S.E., Concord, was also riding in the truck, but neither of the two was injured.
The Concord Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is continuing its investigation of the accident, and no charges had been filed Wednesday.
Carpenter is the fourth person to die in an auto accident in Concord this year and the second fatality in a week.
