A Concord man has won more than $500,000 in the N.C. Education Lottery.
Mike Koontz won $513,608 playing the Carolina Cash 5 game when his ticket for the Nov. 29 drawing matched all five numbers drawn.
Koontz plans to put his winnings aside for a rainy day, as well as give some of the money to his church and charities, according to a press release from lottery officials.
Koontz, who is semi-retired, says he was at his office when he decided to check his numbers online. When he saw that all five numbers matched, he says he had to call his secretary into his office to verify that what he was seeing was real.
Koontz purchased his winning ticket at the Church Street BP on North Church Street in Concord.
