Staff report
County commissioners have scheduled three more special meetings to interview candidates for county manager.
The meetings will include interviews with new applicants and at least one second interview of an applicant. Commissioners have opted to perform the search with the full board conducting all of the interviews.
“It’s looking better all the time,” said Arnold Chamberlain, chairman of the Board of Commissioners.
The board has already conducted three interviews during meetings earlier this month.
Chamberlain described all of the applicants who have been interviewed thus far as being in their mid-40s to mid-50s.
All have previous experience in county management, and all are from the Southeast.
Chamberlain said the board has no timetable to select a manager.
The county will continue accepting applications until the position is filled.
The position has been vacant since Bill Cowan resigned to head up a Pinehurst development project.
Finance Director Leslie Heidrick is serving as interim county manager.
The upcoming special meetings will be held on March 6, March 11 and March 13. All the sessions will be at 3 p.m. in the J. Newton Cohen Sr. Room of the County Administrative Offices Building, 130 W. Innes St. All sessions will be closed.
