On a hot August Monday 35 years ago, pop star Stevie Wonder’s world changed when the car he was riding in smashed into the rear of a flatbed farm truck on Interstate 85 in Salisbury near today’s Jake Alexander Boulevard.
In Sunday’s edition, the Post’s Mark Wineka looks back at some of the events and people from that day — the Day the Music Almost Died.
Wineka follows up Monday with a recounting of Wonder’s recuperation at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem and how the famed musician-songwriter has oft times described the accident as a turning point in his life and career.
