CLEVELAND ó A Cleveland man was killed in a single-vehicle accident here early Saturday.
James R. Cuthbertson, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Cuthbertson was driving a 2000 Lincoln east on U.S. 70 when he crossed the center line and ran off the left side of the road. The accident happened at 2:15 a.m.
His car hit a pair of vehicles parked in a driveway at 14580 Statesville Blvd. before coming to rest in a garage at the residence. One passenger in the car, Michael Mott of Statesville, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center where he was in good condition Monday.
Another passenger, Mark D. Everhart, suffered minor injuries.
The garage and vehicles that the Lincoln struck belong to Shawn and Tim Potter. Shawn Potter said a Highway Patrol trooper told her he estimated the Lincoln’s speed at 90 to 100 mph.
The Potters said the force of the impact resulted in extensive damage to their vehicles and knocked the garage from its foundation.
