A camp meeting will begin at 3 p.m. today with Keith Holland and Friends-N-Christ at Providence AME Zion Church, 2415 Providence Church Road.
Sponsored by the Men’s Choir of Providence, the day will include gospel singers, praise dancers, food and fellowship. Featured will be Men Over Sixty, Boxwood Baptist Church, St. Luke Men’s Choir and New Zion Baptist Church.

Unity preschool
WOODLEAF ó Unity Presbyterian Church Preschool will have a celebration of 25 years during the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday.
The Rev. David Henry, founding pastor of the preschool program, will deliver the message. All present and former students and teachers are urged to attend.

True Holiness
KANNAPOLIS ó True Holiness Church of God, 309 Rosemont Ave. invites the public to the the Ninth Church Anniversary, to be observed May 4-9 The Sunday morning service is at 11 a.m., and Monday-Friday services are at 7 p.m. each evening.
The theme for the celebration is “The Hour of Prayer.”
Guest speakers will be as follows: Sunday ó Pastor Derrick Mock; Monday ó Pastor Beaver Hammond; Tuesday ó Pastor Albert Young; Wednesday ó no service; Thursday ó Pastor John Leazer; Friday Pastor Reginald McConneaughey.

Music at Salem
Salem Lutheran Church on Sherrills Ford Road will celebrate Church Music Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday.
The Men’s Chorus will sing the gathering music beginning around 10:15 a.m. The prelude will be presented by the Koinonia Bells, and other music will be offered by the Chancel Choir and by the Salem Spirit Praise Band and Singers. Each group will present a different style of music, as they celebrate together the unity that God gives.
The Men’s Chorus is well known in Salisbury through their visits to area nursing homes. They sing the “old favorites.” Directed by Sue Petrea, the chorus includes men of various ages and musical experience.
The Koinonia Bells is a group of handbell ringers under the direction of Janet Rash. Their contribution is a spirited rendition of the South African melody, “Siyahamba” that is also known as “We are Marching in the Light.”
The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Alice Stephens, will be singing “Into the Image of God,” an anthem with a calypso feel and lots of syncopation.
During Communion, the Salem Spirit Band and Singers will lead the congregation in favorite contemporary Christian and worship and praise songs.
Congregational hymns will also be sung, with accompaniment on Salem’s pipe organ.
Visitors are welcome.
China Grove Baptist
CHINA GROVE ó South China Grove Baptist Church will celebrate 80 years of service with Homecoming this Sunday. The church is located at 501 Haney St., China Grove.
Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. The Worship Service will begin at 11 a.m. A special music program will be provided by Chuck Glasgo, formerly of the Calvarymen Quartet. The guest speaker will be Brother Glen Kinlaw.
The worship service will be followed by a covered dish meal in the Family Life Center. The public is invited to attend this special celebration.
The pastor is the Rev. Shane Utley and the youth pastor is the Rev. Ryan Bennett. Myra Jolly is the music director.

NEEDMORE ó Corinth Church of Christ announces their 2008 Spring Gospel Meeting May 4-7.
Steve Canup from the Fort Chiswell Church of Christ in Wytheville, Va., will be bringing a series of lessons as follows: Sunday, 10 a.m.: Temptation; 11 a.m.: Don’t Forget God; 2 p.m.: It’s Not About Me; Monday, 7 p.m.: Necessity of Obedience; Tuesday, 7 p.m.: Judgment; Wednesday, 7 p.m.: Nails of the Cross.
Every one is welcome to a fellowship meal at 12:30 p.m. Sunday before the 2 p.m. lesson.
Canup is an alumnus of Freed-Hardeman College (1979) in Henderson, Tenn. He worked for 24 years as a restaurant manager, including, working with Cracker Barrel in Concord and Sagebrush in Salisbury. In 2006 he graduated from the Tri-Cities School of Preaching.
He has been the full-time minister for the Fort Chiswell Church of Christ, Wytheville, Va. since May 2006. He and his wife, Lanita, have three children and two grandchildren.

Unity Methodist
KANNAPOLIS ó The Social Security Boys will be in concert at the 8:45 and 10:55 a.m. services Sunday.
The trio presents a diverse repertoire including original songs and Southern gospel standards. Group members are Vern Sullivan, James Austin and Cecil Hinnant.
There is no admission charge. An offering will be taken. Tapes and CDs will be available for purchase.
A dinner with the Social Security Boys in attendance will follow the 10:55 a.m. concert.

Love Christian Center
EAST SPENCER ó The Southeastern District Conference of the C.O.G.A. will be convening at Love Christian Center, 102 N. Long St., East Spencer, May 7-9 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.
The theme will be “Receiving and Keeping the Blessings and Favor of God” with guest speaker Dr. T. La’trell Penny.
Penny is the pastor and founder of Shubach Deliverance World Ministries of Sumter, S.C., and Victory Temple Church Inc. located in Greeleyville, S.C. She has been ministering for more than a decade throughout the United States.
Penny holds a doctorate in divinity degree, and she has shared pulpits with Apostle Richard D. Henton, Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Paul Morton and Pastor Shirley Caesar.
Bishop W. Ronald Hash is district overseer.
Camp Grier
KANNAPOLIS ó First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis will host Dave Cohn, director of Camp Grier, for a special presentation about the camp Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. All children and teens, first grade and up, and their parents are welcome to attend.
An optional fellowship supper will be served at 6 p.m., with a suggested donation of $5 per person, maximum of $15 per family.
Camp Grier is owned and operated by the Presbyteries of Charlotte, Salem and Western North Carolina. It located just outside of Old Fort, at the foot of the Blue Ridge.
The camp provides summer camping for children and youth, rising second grade through high school. Camp activities include small group Bible study, crafts, hiking, swimming, tubing and other nature activities. A basketballcourt and soccer and softball areas have recently been added. Housing varies from main camp lodges to rustic A-frame log houses, depending on the age group.

New Beginning
KANNAPOLIS ó New Beginning Church of God, 1124 Thomas Ave., Kannapolis, is holding Fourth Appreciation Services for the Maxwell Family (Assistant Pastor Chavis and Tosha Maxwell) on May 9 at 7 p.m., and May 10 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The speaker for the May 9 service is the Rev. Jones of United Baptist Church, Kannapolis.
At the May 10 morning service, the speaker is Evangelist McManus of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis. At the evening service, the speaker is Pastor Caldwell of New Piney Grove, Kannapolis.

Catholic Daughters
Sacred Heart Catholic Daughters Court #1759 of Salisbury gathered to celebrate the court’s 50th anniversary at the home of Frances Edwards on Sunday, April 20.
Representatives from Court Greensboro, Court Statesville and Court Durham attended the event.
Frances Edwards welcomed everyone to her home and shared that the court’s 25th anniversary was held in the same location when her mother, Charlotte Taylor, owned the house.
Ellen Kirk, regent of the court, thanked everyone for coming. Fifty-year pins were presented to charter members Charlotte Taylor, Bobbi Womack, Thelma Boulus and Mary Frances Rouche. Other 50-year members not in attendance were Charlotte Gardner, Ann Ramsey and Ruth Boone.
Mary Ann Grabasky, North Carolina state regent, presented the court with a set of crystal vases along with a certificate commemorating the 50th year of the court. Gerri Butler was recognized as a long-time member, officer and past state regent of Catholic Daughters, who came from Charlotte to represent Court Charlotte when Sacred Heart’s court was established.
Founded in 1903, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas is one of the largest national organizations of Catholic women in the world. The Salisbury Court reaches out to parishioners and the community and has been a key supporter of the church through bereavement meals, hosting receptions, making handmade quilts for all shut-ins along with financial support for a variety of other church projects.
