Carson High yearbook wins top award
The 2008 Yearbook for Jesse Carson High School has been recognized as one of the first-place yearbooks for schools with enrollment of 1,001-1,700 by the American Scholastic Press Association.
The editor last year was Brittany Ford. Jennifer Knox is yearbook advisor.
With a cover featuring an original art piece by James Stutts, the yearbook had the theme, “A Second Glance.” It was the school’s second year.
“This was only our second year of publication and our first submission to ASPA,” said advisor Knox.
Knox said several students emerged as great designers with new and exciting ideas, including then-sophomores Beverly Bourne and Shanna Stewart. They have taken the lead on this year’s book as editors, along with Kayla Hamby, Sydney Houghton and Jennifer Phimmasone.
Knox said the yearbook staff has several goals, including top-notch photos and designs that allow them to shine, with no colored or patterned background.
“I am always proud of the investment made by my students,” Knox said. ” This is my fifth year as advisor, and I never cease to be impressed by students who discover talents they never knew they had.”
