CONCORD ó Carolinas Rehabilitation and Stanly Regional Medical Center have filed an application with the state to build a 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast.
The Certificate of Need Section of the N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation will hold a public hearing on the project on Sept. 16, a Tuesday, in the Cabarrus County Public Library Auditorium at 27 Union St. The hearing will begin at 1 p.m.
The two institutions say they are not asking the state for any new additional hospital beds.
Instead, they propose relocating 10 beds from Stanly Regional, 10 beds from Carolinas Rehabilitation and 20 beds from Carolinas Rehabilitation at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy ó to the new rehabilitation center.
If state officials issue the required certificate of need, Stanly Regional and CMC-NorthEast say they would open the new $25.6 million, 55,000-square-foot facility in early 2011.
Any person may file written comments concerning this proposal. Comments must be received by Sept. 2 at the following address: Certificate of Need Section, Division of Health Service Regulation, 2704 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, N.C. 27699-2704.
