Staff report
A single car accident Saturday evening on Crescent Road knocked out electricity to more than 700 Duke Energy customers in eastern Rowan County.
Emergency personnel contacted Duke Energy around 9 p.m. after the car toppled two utility poles near Nazareth Children’s Home, between Rockwell and Granite Quarry.
Emergency personnel blocked off Crescent and Pop Basinger roads while clearing the wreck scene and awaiting Duke Energy crews.
The outage also apparently knocked out a Salisbury-Rowan Utilities pump station.
According to emergency radio traffic, a woman and three children who were in the car were taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Duke Energy crews were on the scene Saturday night working to restore power.
Rowan Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene to help with traffic control, including rerouting traffic around the area where the power lines were down.
