KANNAPOLIS ó Emergency officials discovered a reported wreck Tuesday night was actually a car that had driven into a store and hit a customer.
At 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, the Kannapolis Fire Department went to a traffic crash at 900 N. Ridge Ave. to find the car lodged in the doors of Luna’s Deli and Mini Mart.
Firefighters called for more personnel for patient care and Concord Fire & Life Safety’s Structure Collapse team to determine the stability of the structure.
There was one occupant of a white, four-door Buick Skylark who was in the car at the time of the crash. The car struck a customer who was inside the building.
Each patient was transported by ambulance to Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast.
“We appreciate the multi-agency support we were given on this incident,” said Battalion Chief Tracy Winecoff.
“Our initial concern was the possibility of multiple victims. In addition to patient care, the instability of the structure and concern for scene safety were also issues. We train for these types of multi-departmental scenarios on a regular basis so that we have the necessary resources when the time comes.”
Firefighters remained on scene for about two hours assisting the Kannapolis Police Department with their investigation and until the vehicle was removed from the structure.
The victims names were not released.
