Rick Wagner ó broken leg and all ó claimed victory Saturday night at the Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association championships in Raleigh.
The 28-year-old Rockwell resident was riding with a special cast on his broken right leg that included a spur wired into it.
Scott Hilgendorff of SEBRA said Wagner was bucked off during rides Friday night and Saturday night but maintained enough of a lead over the competition to claim victory in the two-day championships held at the James B. Hunt Jr. Horse Complex.
Wagner had earned $26,562 in 2007 events, putting him ahead of his closest competitor, rookie Tommy Jones, by just over $6,000 going into the finals.
Hilgendorff said Wagner earned more than $26,000 during the weekend and gets use of a Dodge pickup truck for a year to go with his victory.
