Deadline for Summer Ventures program Jan. 31

The deadline for application to Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics, a statewide program of residential institutes to provide enrichment and research opportunities to academically talented high school students, is Jan. 31.

Application forms, which must be postmarked by Jan. 31, are available from high school guidance counselors as well as online at www.summerventures.org. Approximately 500 high school juniors and seniors will participate this summer in the program’s 23rd year.

A program of the University of North Carolina system administered by the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, Summer Ventures includes four-week programs at six campus sites during June and July. No tuition or fees are charged for the program.

Admission is limited to current high school sophomores and juniors whose custodial parents or guardians are residents of North Carolina. Students are selected on the basis of academic motivation in science and mathematics and emotional maturity.

Spanish classes

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer Conversational Spanish I classes Wednesdays Feb. 7-May 2 from 2:30-5 p.m.

Sessions will meet at the new R3 Career Center, 164 Dale Earnhardt Blvd., Kannapolis.
