Students who are savvy know Rowan Public Library can help solve questions and help with homework, offer research materials, services and online resources that will improve their grades at report card time.
Web site: Homework Help is available on the RPL Web site. Links to articles, country information, states information, math and science, history and North Carolina can be found here, as well as a link to NCHE, North Carolinians for Home Education. These links cut out the generalized search of thousands of non-pertinent Web sites, saving time and increasing authenticity of information.
Start Squad is also found under Homework Help and will direct elementary children to the very best Web sites for school.
Homework Alert is directed to teachers who are interested in bringing a class to the library for a specific assignment. The library staff is also happy to conduct library tours with advanced notice. Homework Alert can be used to request that library materials be set aside for a class.
Learning Express Library can be found under Online Tools. It offers many practice tests students can take to increase their chances of doing well on real tests. Subjects range from elementary, middle and high school skills to military, nursing and many other careers. Go to www.rowanpubliclibrary.org
Library help: Library catalogs are equipped with Accelerated Reader lists for each county school, so finding AR books has never been easier. Come into the library and stock up.
Computers: The children’s room has six computers for children ages 11 and under to use for research, writing reports or to enjoy some educational software. Internet access is available to children ages 9 and up with written parental permission. The adult lab is available to students ages 12 and up. Students under 17 require written parental permission to access the Internet. All computers have word processing capabilities. Printing is available for 10 cents per page.Books: The library stocks the latest in guidebooks, classic and other fiction for English classes, the best in young adult books for relaxation, nonfiction for writing reports and reference books. If we don’t have a needed item, we will attempt to locate it through interlibrary loan or other means.
Classes: The library offers computer classes several times a year in basic computer knowledge. Call us at 704- 216-8243 for schedules.
