The end of summer is fast aproaching. On Aug. 25, thousands of students across Rowan County will give up lazy days in the sun for texbooks, lessons and lectures.
About 20,800 students are expected to attend Rowan-Salisbury schools during the 2008-2009 school year, according to state projections.
As parents prepare to send their children back to school, the Rowan-Salisbury School System’s Web site provides information, like school supply lists.
The Web site is www.rss. k12.nc.us.
Parents should also be aware of a new immunization required for incoming sixth- graders. Before those students start school, they need a booster shot of tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccinations.
Parents should contact their health-care provider or the Rowan County Health Department to schedule an appointment for the vaccine.
Students should also be aware of uniform policies at some schools. Eight of the school system’s 20 elementary schools have uniform policies. All of the middle schools have policies.
Most schools with uniform policies require students to wear polo shirts. Uniform requirements can be found on the school system’s Web site.
