The Arc/Rowan held its annual membership meeting and dinner on March 27, 2008 at First Baptist Church.
Board President Peggy Walker presided at the meeting, where officers were installed for 2008-2009 term. They are Walker; Robert Ritchie, vice president; Gary Rhodes, treasurer; and Beth Foreman, secretary.
The Arc/Rowan, a United Way agency, recognized a number of people and programs with awards:
– Parent Volunteers of the Year ó Keith and Janet Gapen.
– Inclusive Community Service Award ó Upward Basketball program.
– Teacher of the Year ó Traci Anderson.
– Volunteer of the Year ó Beth Foreman.
– Employer of the Year ó Food Lion Store 1417.
– The Professional of the Year ó Carl Repsher.
– Direct Support Service Award ó Annette Parker.
– Distinguished Service Award ó Sara Lee.
A special recognition award will be presented to Dr. Charles Lockert at a later date.
The guest speaker for the evening was Jack Thomas with his Native American Flutes.
