ALBEMARLE ó Billy Ray Little Jr., 25, of Mount Gilead, was charged Monday with murder in the death of 22-year-old Jay Alexander Marshall of Troy.
Albemarle Police Chief Gerald R. Michael said in a press release that Little, of 1241 Hallyburton Road, has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
The report says police responded to a call Sunday around 2 a.m. at Sharkey’s II at 134 N.C. 740.
Officers found a large crowd in the parking lot at the restaurant and bar and a man with a gunshot wound lying in the lot.
Officers tried to save the man’s life until an ambulance arrived and took the victim to Stanly Regional Medical Center.
Other officers tried to control the crowd and arrested Roshun K. Dumas, of 203 Hanover Street in Troy, charging him with assault on a government official and resisting, delaying and obstructing a police officer.
Marshall was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:27 a.m.
Little is being held with no bond pending a first court appearance March 25.
