A Salisbury family that lost a member in a tragic accident last year now worries about another loved one gone missing.
Fred and Dorothy Setzer are the former mother-in-law and father-in-law of George Anna Chambers Setzer, who has been missing from her Statesville home since Sunday, and the grandparents of the daughter she has with their son.
And Fred Setzer was the brother of 64-year-old Marshall “Marsha” Setzer Ludwick, who was killed in a head-on collision one year ago today. The other driver, Christopher Crocker, who was 15 at the time, was fleeing police when the wreck occurred and has been charged with second-degree murder.
Now as the family awaits the September trial of Crocker, they also must wait for word on George Anna.
The N.C. State Bureau of Investigation has joined the search for 48-year-old George Anna, who was last seen by family and friends Sunday around 4:30 p.m.
She was supposed to pick up her 12-year-old daughter from a friend’s house later that night. But she never arrived.
Statesville Police Chief Stephen Hampton said Wednesday he requested the SBI’s assistance in the investigation.
“The search continues and has expanded,” he said.
Officials have asked various media outlets to publicize the search for George Anna, including Fox News. Hampton and George Anna’s boyfriend, Rob Collier, spoke with Greta Van Susteren on her show ‘On the Record.’
Investigators have not found George Anna’s car.
“If we can locate the vehicle, it’ll just give us a lot more information than we have now,” Hampton said.
Setzer was driving her jade-green 2005 Ford Escape sport utility vehicle with North Carolina license tag NXY 9590.
Dorothy Setzer, said Wednesday that the family is praying and hoping for George Anna’s safe return.
George Anna’s ex-husband, Glenn, and daughter, Anna Edward Setzer, are having a difficult time, Dorothy said.
“It’s so hard,” she said. “We dearly miss her.”
Glenn and Anna have been staying with Dorothy and her husband, Fred, in Salisbury.
Dorothy said the family appreciates the love and support it has received from the Salisbury and Statesville communities.
Posters with information about George Anna’s disappearance have been placed throughout Statesville and Salisbury. Also, a $5,000 reward has been offered by friends, family and the Kristen Foundation.
George Anna is 5 feet 8 inches tall with a slim build. She has long brown hair and green eyes.
Family and friends have created a Web site, www.findgeorgeanna.com.
Investigators ask anyone with information on Setzer’s whereabouts to call the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406 or Statesville Crimestoppers at 704-437-2677.
