Andrew McGowan Mason, 17, will receive his Eagle Scout award today at First United Methodist Church. Henry Trexler, scoutmaster of Troop 443, sponsored by St. Johns Lutheran Church will present the award.
Son of Greg and Kathy Mason of Salisbury, Drew has served as assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader and junior assistant scoutmaster. He has earned 21 merit badges, two 50-Miler awards, Kayaking BSA, six Historic Trail awards and the God and Church award. He completed two Junior Leadership Training sessions, one as a teacher/leader. In 2006, he was elected to the Order of the Arrow, Boy Scoutings national honor society for experienced campers. This summer he will travel to Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M.
For his Eagle project, Drew raised funds to supplement the purchase of nine visitor signs for the Catawba College Ecological Preserve and coordinated their installation.
Drew is a senior at Salisbury High School, where he is a Honor Roll student and member of the Key Club, National Honor Society and Varsity Soccer team. He is a member of First United Methodist Church and will attend N.C. State Universitys School of Engineering in the fall.
