Jordan Dyer, 6, killed her first turkey while hunting in Virginia with her father. Shes the daughter of Kerry and Heather Dyer and a first-grader at Rockwell Elementary.
She shot the turkey with a 20-gauge shotgun the morning of April 7, which was youth day of the spring turkey season, in Bull Mountain, Va.
The turkey weighed 23 pounds and had a 10 12-inch beard with 114 inch spurs.
Shes been going hunting with her father, an avid outdoorsman, for two years. The turkey, which is still in the freezer, will likely ended up fried.
n n nTony Sadler caught a largemouth bass he weighed in at 11 pounds, 3 ounces on High Rock Lake. The 14-year-old eighth-grader at Erwin Middle School was fishing from the bank with a friend. He was using a buzz bait when the big one hit.
He weighed in a fish scale at home.
He has an 8-pounder that he caught in a smaller pond mounted at home, and the 11-pounder, which was 23 inches long, may end up that way too. For now, it is still in the freezer at their Rockwell home.
