A Raleigh woman struck by a car Friday night on an Interstate 85 exit ramp at Long Ferry Road remained in critical condition Saturday at Carolinas Medical Center.
Chantal James, 21, of 8800 Highhill Road, was hit as she walked into the path of a 1997 Buick driven by Marguerite Blizzard of Blue Heron Road, Salisbury.
A car James had been a passenger in was stopped in the “V” between the interstate lanes of traffic and the exit lane to Long Ferry Road. Her companion was trying to change a flat tire on the car, and a highway patrolman had already arrived to help.
As the trooper walked back toward his car to retrieve a hydraulic jack, James began crossing from the stranded vehicle toward a guardrail on the other side of the exit ramp.
That’s when the Buick hit her.
