It takes planning and preparation by Maestro David Hagy and the Salisbury Symphony to make Pops at the Post a musical success.
It also takes months of planning and preparation by the Pops at the Post executive committee to make the evening an overall success.
Ronnie Tomlinson, district manager in the Post’s circulation department, is in charge of logistics again this year. He and others have worked hard to ensure a smooth event.
On page 10 of this special section, you’ll find a map of Downtown Salisbury with parking lots marked. A total of 12 parking lots will be available for Pops parking. They’re numbered 1-12 and will be filled in that order.
Two 16-passenger shuttle vans will circulate continuously through parking lots from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and from 10 to 11:30 p.m.
“We’d like to thank SunTrust, CitizensSouth, First Baptist Church, St. John’s Lutheran Church and Wallace Realty for the use of their parking lots,” Tomlinson says. “Please be patient with us as this is our first year for shuttle service.”
The Post and First Bank are also providing their parking lots for seating at no charge.
A Blackhawk helicopter will be landing at 10 a.m. in the Wachovia parking lot, and will be on display throughout the day. Also on display will be an Army firetruck and a firetruck from the City of Salisbury.
Vendors will be setting up at 4 p.m. They are the Carriage Room, Chick-Fil-A, Domino’s Pizza, Hap’s Hotdogs and Marlow’s.
Free Cheerwine will also be available.
The Salisbury Post will have an information tent along with three kiosks throughout the event area to sell subscriptions.
The Salisbury Symphony and Rowan County EMS will also have information tents set up.
Since a larger crowd is expected this year, there will be more trashcans and more port-a-johns.
Tomlinson asks concert-goers to pick up trash in their immediate area.
The port-a-johns will be set up in the covered drive-through area at First Bank.
Limited handicapped parking is available at the Post courtyard. This is first-come, first-served with a handicapped parking permit only. For others needing special assistance, a drop-off area is located between the Bell Tower and First Bank.
Drivers should enter from Innes Street and exit to the right onto Jackson Street.
In case of rain, the concert will be held at Keppel Auditorium on the campus of Catawba College.
That decision will be made at noon Friday. Check Saturday’s Salisbury Post for more information, and tune into WSAT 1490 AM.
A map of Catawba is located on page 11. Vendors will also be set up at Catawba.
