A young Concord man died Monday night after he was ejected from his pickup as it overturned several times on Old Concord Road.
James Earl Arthur, 19, of 3070 Penninger Road, Concord, was pronounced dead on arrival at Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord. Rescue personnel with Bostian Heights Fire Department reported on their arrival at the wreck scene that Arthur was unresponsive and had blood in his airways.
The accident occurred at 7:25 p.m. just south of N.C. 152.
Trooper Christopher Rogers of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Arthur’s southbound 2003 Ford pickup entered a curve at an excessive speed.
The driver lost control to the left and crossed the center line before over-correcting and sending the vehicle into a roll, according to the trooper’s report.
Arthur was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Both the driver and the pickup came to rest on the southbound shoulder of Old Concord Road.
