East Spencer Police arrested a man Wednesday for hitting and choking a woman and learned that he was wanted for a more serious crime in Yadkin County.
Police say Jimmy Lee Harris, 26, of 201 Division Ave., East Spencer, hit Jennifer Agresto about the face with his fist and kicked her, besides choking her Tuesday.
He was charged with assault by strangulation and assault inflicting serious injury. Harris will have his first appearance in Rowan County District Court on those charges today.
Meanwhile, authorities in Yadkin County say Harris faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill or inflict serious injury and also possession of a firearm by a felon.The Yadkin County charges go back to a Christmas Day incident, and a warrant for his arrest was issued Dec. 27. He is accused of assaulting Zachary Zane Zeller with a small-caliber handgun.
Previously, in January 2004, Harris had pleaded guilty in Davie County Superior Court to malicious conduct by a prisoner and was sentenced to 30 to 45 months in prison.
Yadkin County law enforcement gave Harris’ address as 1018 W. Horah St., Salisbury.
Rowan authorities placed Harris in jail under $50,000 bond. His first appearance in Yadkin County is scheduled for Jan. 16.
