A 30-year-old Salisbury man has been charged with raping an 8-year-old girl multiple times over a two-year period.
Daniel D. Pless, of 406 Forrest Wind Drive, faces eight counts of first-degree rape of a child. He was in the Rowan County Detention Center on Wednesday under $200,000 bond.
Authorities had been looking for Pless since earlier this month. He turned himself in Tuesday night at the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office.
A report by Sheriff’s Office Investigator Greg Hannold said the alleged assaults started two years ago and happened through Dec. 5, 2007.
The girl told someone after she and classmates “watched a film in school about good touching and bad touching,” Sheriff’s Capt. John Sifford said.
The girl told a friend, that friend told a parent and the parent reported the allegations, Sifford said.
Pless has previously been convicted of larceny, drug possession, assault on a female and communicating threats.
His first court appearance is today.
