The N.C. Department of Transportation is using economic recovery dollars in Cabarrus County to rehabilitate three miles of Interstate 85 from mile marker 55 to 58 in Concord beginning Sunday, July 12, weather permitting.
The $3.4 million contract was awarded to Blythe Development Co. of Charlotte. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.
Work will include pavement rehabilitation, shoulder reconstruction and construction of rumble strips. Motorists can expect lane closures on this section of I-85 from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sundays-Fridays.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, every $1 million spent on transportation creates 30 jobs, and according to the construction industry, every dollar invested in transportation trickles down in the economy six times.
NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit. Plan ahead before driving by visiting the NCDOT Traveler Information Management Web site at www.ncdot.gov/traffictravel or call 511, the state’s free travel information line for current travel conditions.
