UDC memorial serviceto be held Saturday
The Robert F. Hoke Chapter No. 78 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy will conduct a memorial service for Confederate veteran Archibald Henderson Boyden on Saturday, Sept. 26 at his grave site in Chestnut Hill Cemetery at 11 a.m. The grave is located on the Johnson Street side of the cemetery.
The service will also include the dedication of a UDC iron cross to signify Boyden’s military service.
A.H. Boyden was a young courier for Major General Robert F. Hoke during the War Between the States. After the war he was active in the Salisbury community and served five terms as mayor of the city.
The memorial service is open to the public.
In case of inclement weather the service will take place in the Stanback Auditorium of the Rowan Public Library.
