Police say two men hit a local convenience store. Literally. Early Tuesday, two men drove up in a pickup, backed into the Express Mart, 1600 S. Main St. and broke the glass door.
They were trying to steal an automated teller machine inside the store, Salisbury Police Department officials say. And a surveillance camera recorded the whole thing.
Around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, the men pulled up at the store in a large white pickup. The passenger got out of the vehicle and looked into the store. The men left, then returned 15 minutes later.
The driver backed the truck up and crashed through the front glass doors.
The passenger, a white male in his early 20s who appeared to be around 6 feet tall and 170 pounds, got out and wrapped a logging chain around the ATM, then attached the chain to the truck.
As the driver pulled away, the chain snapped. The passenger pushed and tugged on the machine, but it didn’t budge.
“It is bolted to the floor,” Deputy Chief Steve Whitley said.
The two men then left the store parking lot.
The truck is a white construction-type vehicle similar to a Ford F-350. It has a black flatbed with black rails.
There are no distinguishing markings on the truck, Whitley said.
The driver never exited the truck. The passenger was wearing a light-colored hooded shirt and gloves.
